Unlock a Xiaomi Redmi Pro / Redmi 3 bootloader

  1. Request for your device to be unlocked from Xiaomi
    • For the reason I said “I’m a developer and I understand the risks”
    • They say it can take up to 2 weeks, but it took me 2 hours
  2. Make sure you are logged into your Xiaomi account on your device
  3. Enable developer options
    • Tap on Settings -> About phone -> MIUI version 7 times until it says that you are a developer
    • Enable Developer options and USB Debugging in
      Settings -> Additional settings
  4. Install the MIUI Developer ROM
    • Download the MIUI Developer ROM
    • Copy the ROM to your phone’s internal storage
    • You can use Windows as is or use Android File Transfer on OSX
    • Open Updater and Choose update package from the menu
    • Install the ROM from the place that you saved it
  5. Go to https://i.mi.com/ and make sure you can see your device listed
    • It didn’t work for me on wifi – had to use a sim card
    • You must have turned on find device in
Settings -> Mi Account -> MiCloud -> Find Device
  6. When you get the approval SMS from Xiaomi, download the unlock software
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to enter FastBoot mode
    • Make sure you use Volume DOWN + Power to enter Fastboot
    • Fastboot will look like the cute picture shown on the MIUI unlock page – that’s how you know you did it right.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to unlock
